Monichino Vintage Port.
|

Monichino 2004 Vintage Port
and Chris Killeen Memorial Trophy
|
Terry was presented with the award by Chris Killeen's widow, Ann at the 120th Rutherglen Wine Show presentation evening. The Monichino family was honoured to receive such a prestigious award.
|
The Rutherglen Wine Show is one of Australia's major wine shows and wineries come from all over Australia to compete, and it's tough competition as there are over 2000 wines vying for the awards across many categories. "The Chris Killeen trophy is particularly sentimental for the Monichino family as they knew Chris Killeen very well and were thrilled to receive the award from his family".
In the winemaking industry Chris was known as the Prince of Port, he was a sixth generation winemaker from Rutherglen, and judged at the Rutherglen Wine show for a number of years. He always maintained that Australia
|
could make some of the world's great vintage ports. Chris revolutionized vintage port production in Australia, so to win an award presented in his memory is very special.
Monichino Wines Vintage Port has already picked up more than its fair share of awards taking out two gold medals at the Australian Small Wine Makers Show into 2007 and 2008, and at the Victorian wine show in 2007, along with silver medals at wine shows in 2006 and 2007.
Monichino
Wines Shiraz has also picked up a Silver medal this year and Cabernet
Sauvignon won bronze at the Ballarat Wine Show.

Monichino Winemaker in Italy
|
Our apprentice winemaker Frankie is in the Marche wine region in Northern Italy for this year's vintage. He is working for Stefano our exchange winemaker who did a season at Monichino wines three years ago.
The winery
is the Villa Ligi; there is a website about the winery if you are
interested.
Frankie
will also be visiting Guillaume in Ardeche in the Rhone wine region of
France. Guillaume was also on exchange here at the winery two years ago.
|
Both of these young winemakers have family wineries and we are looking forward to Frankie's return with the latest techniques and ideas from Europe.
Monichino wines will be holding an end of Vintage wine dinner on the 9th May 2009.
Francesca will be matching Monichino wine with a sumptuous Italian Banquet in honour of Frankie's return from Europe. For Bookings 03 58646452 or email info@monichino.com.au.

Francesca's Coffee & Marsala Semifreddo
|

Ingredients:
2 eggs
4 egg yolks
1/3 cup caster sugar
1 3/4 cups thickened cream, whipped
1 shot of espresso coffee
1/4 cup Monichino Marsala
|
Method:
1. Grease a 6cm-deep, 19cm x 9cm (base) loaf pan. Line with baking paper,
allowing a 5cm overhang on both long ends.
2. Place eggs, egg yolks and sugar in a
heatproof bowl. Place bowl over a saucepan of simmering water over low heat
(see note). Whisk for 4 to 5 minutes or until thick and creamy. Remove from
heat. Whisk for 4 to 5 minutes or until cool.
3. Transfer mixture to a large bowl.
Gently fold in cream,
|
espresso coffee and Monichino Marsala.
Pour mixture into prepared pan. Cover and freeze overnight or until firm.
4. Stand at room temperature for 5
minutes before turning out onto a plate.
Note: Make sure bowl doesn't touch the water.
Water must not boil, as too much heat can cause egg mixture to curdle.

Jazz Sunday at Monichino Winery
|

Sarah McLain (Middle) with the
Swingchesters Ron & Margaret
|
Our Jazz event on Sunday the 26th October was a great success again. The weather was stormy so we held the event in the wine barrel room.
Sarah McLain's beautiful sultry voice resonated through the room and the Swingers
|
danced to everyone's delight and of course Ron & Margaret (The Swingchesters) showed us all how beautifully they can dance.
Next year if the weather is okay we will
again hold the jazz event outdoors.

2004 Monichino Award Winning Vintage Port
APPEARANCE -Rich Ruby colour
AROMA - Blackberry & Spice
PALATE -Blackberry, spice and cherry
Carlo Monichino has excelled with this
magnificent Vintage Port, winning a string of medals, three gold from
Ballarat, Rutherglen and the Australian small winemakers show, plus an
additional two silver medals from the Victorian Wine Show. To intensify
flavour and colour the vines were stressed from fruit-set to picking
without any supplementary water. Vintage Port is at its best after many
years of bottle aging. Monichino Vintage port retains its youthful intense
colour and although it can be drunk now it will be all the better with
cellaring. This wine has Blackberry & Spice aroma, with intense fruit
and cherry flavours, integrated with
a good tannic finish provides for years of potential cellaring.
Cellaring 15-30 years. Price: $25.00 bottle (Cellar door)
