Welcome to the Autumn Edition of Monichino's Tasting Notes
We have some great deals on red wine this Autumn. The 2001 Shiraz has been walking out the door and is drinking well. We still have the 2002 Carlo's pressings on special which has always been popular, this is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot...... Carlo's favourite wine.

When you call into our cellar door make sure you try one of our gourmet Antipasto or cheese platters, or you can use the BBQ facilities located in the picnic grounds. The weather in the Goulburn Valley is at its best at this time of year, perfect sunny days and gorgeous autumn colours in the vineyard. “We have more sunny days than Queensland!”

Make your own wine trail. Travel through the Goulburn Valley and visit the wineries at Nagambie, Shepparton and then stop at Monichino Wines in Katunga. After your visit to Katunga, either drive up the Murray Valley highway to visit our local wineries on the way to Rutherglen or go West through to the wineries in Echuca. Monichino Wines are situated only 2 ½ to 3 hours drive North of Melbourne.
Monichino 2004 Award Winning Vintage Port
Carlo Monichino has excelled with this magnificent Vintage Port, winning a string of medals. Three gold medals from Ballarat, Rutherglen and the Australian small winemakers show, plus an additional two silver medals from the Victorian Wine show.

To intensify flavour and colour the vines were stressed from fruit-set to picking without any supplementary water. Vintage port can be consumed young but is best after many years of bottle age.

Ideal cellaring conditions are in a cool (12-14 degrees Celsius) dark environment and lying down to keep the cork moist. Cellaring potential of 15-30 years. Price: $25.00 per bottle.

New Release
MONICHINO 2007 SEMILLON/SAUVIGNON BLANC

The palate is clean and well balanced. A popular blend, this wine can be consumed young or aged for up to ten years
Wine Makers Report
For Monichino Winery this year’s vintage has been extremely successful with figures up on tonnages from the previous year. We attribute this to very careful management of water with drip irrigation and compost use in the vineyard. The quality of grapes harvested from this vintage are of a very high standard and we are looking forward to producing some excellent wines this year.

Due to a huge demand and popularity of the ROSE PETALS, ORANGE MUSCAT AND SAUVIGNON BLANC 2007 vintages have sold out. However we are pleased to announce that the new release vintages of these varieties will be available again in May this year.

Recipe - Bagna Cauda
The name means hot bath, and this is just that, perfect for dunking fresh vegetables and crisp crostini. Autumn is a time we still have wonderful fresh vegetables in season, so I thought that a traditional Piemontese Monichino Family recipe would be perfect.

Preparaion time: 5 minutes. Cooking time: 3-4 minutes. Makes 1 ¼ cups, enough for 6 serves.

Method:
Sizzle garlic and anchovies with ¼ cup of the oil for 2-3 minutes. Add cream and sizzle 2-3 minutes more until creamy. If you have a fondue this would be perfect, otherwise a warm bowl with a platter of vegetables for dipping.
Ingredients:
6 cloves garlic, very finely chopped.
4-6 Anchovies fillets in their oil.
1 cup extra virgin cold pressed olive oil.
¼ cup fresh cream.

To accompany: a selection of fresh salad vegetables cut into small strips. E.g.. Celery, Carrots, Fennel, Broccoli, Capsicum, Italian bread or Crostini.
